What is IELTS?
IELTS, which stands for International English Language Testing System, is a standardized test of English language proficiency for non-native English language speakers. It is designed to assess the language ability of candidates who need to study or work where English is the language of communication. IELTS is accepted by most Australian, British, Canadian, European, and New Zealand academic institutions, by over 3,000 academic institutions in the United States, and by various professional organizations across the world. Both the Academic and General Training tests have a 60-minute Writing section, but they cater to different needs. However, Task 2, which is essay writing, is the same in both tests.

- IELTS Academic Writing:
- Task 1: INFORMATION TRANSFER TASK Summarize information from. graph, chart, or diagram in your own words.
- Task 2: ESSAY WRITING: Write an essay in response to a point of view, argument, or problem. This task is the same in both IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training Test.
- IELTS General Training Writing:
- Task 1: LETTER WRITING: Write a letter explaining a situation or requesting information.
- Task 2: ESSAY WRITING: You will be asked to write an essay in response to a point of view, argument, or problem. This task is the same in both IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training Test.
Scoring in the Writing Section
Your performance in the Writing section is evaluated based on four criteria: Task Achievement, Coherence and Cohesion, Lexical Resource, and Grammatical Range and Accuracy. Each criterion is rated on a scale of 0 to 9, with all having equal weight. What is the CELPIP?
CELPIP, or the Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program, is your key to opening doors in Canada. Whether you’re dreaming of living in Canada permanently, studying, or working, CELPIP is the test that helps show you’re ready for the Canadian way of life. It’s a computer-based test that checks how well you use English, ranking your skills from 1 to 12. The Canadian government, through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), trusts CELPIP for permanent residency applications. CELPIP Writing Section
The Writing section of the CELPIP test is your opportunity to demonstrate your ability to communicate effectively in written English. This portion of the test is designed to reflect tasks you might encounter in everyday Canadian life, such as writing emails or responding to surveys.

- Duration: You will have between 53 to 60 minutes to complete two distinct writing tasks.
